Rescue Me ID: 15-06-22-00168Pumpkin (male)

Tibetan Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The Schnauzer/Terrier mix is a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely smart and loyal family dog. Both breeds are famous for their great temperaments and loving and snuggly ways. They're known to be exceptional family dogs.. trustworthy and very gentle with their people and other family pets. Since this mix is overjoyed (and therefore has better behavior in every area of life) with lots of exercise...if a long hike, run, or just a neighborhood walk is the order of the day - count them in! These mixes (with their long legs and Terrier enthusiasm) are known to run joyfully and energetically through the Colorado ... (Read More)mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines. Pumpkin is an absolutely adorable and engaging guy who favors the intellect of the Terrier (so happy and energetic) while taking on the very engaging qualities of the Schnauzer. Pumpkin's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes close playmates everywhere he goes. He is social and that means everyone he meets has the potential to become a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Pumpkin's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending up in a smile. And if a place is available next to a favorite family member, up Pumpkin goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Pumpkin is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of his breeds. At about 9 - 12 months old and 17 lbs, Pumpkin seems to have completely left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. He has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments. It is for this reason that we think Pumpkin will shine in group obedience class. It will give him the self-esteem and bonding with his family that he's never been given the benefit of. Just a bit of effort goes a very long way in making these dogs pleasant and well-behaved members of a household and community. We would like to see Pumpkin in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's very social and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Pumpkin would be a wonderful companion for active retirees or families with dog-crazy kids who have the time and desire to establish behavioral guidelines through positive reinforcement training and time-spend. Pumpkin doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy his canine relationships with fun and gentle dogs. Pumpkin is being fostered in Denver. Meet and Greets are being set up and applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. Rescue Me ID: 14-09-12-00065Prairie-PENDING! (male)

Tibetan Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

There was a lot of conversation on what mix of breeds Prairie is. The shelter vets immediately said Bearded Collie...but mixed with what? The town vets came up with a Bearded Collie/Tibetan Terrier mix. This was due to his stunning, soft as cotton coat and panda-bear face that look like a cross between these two awesome breeds. There's no doubt that Prairie has the beauty and dedicated loyalty (as well as general look) of the majestic Bearded Collie. Prairie weighs just about 45 lbs (a perfect medium size to love running, hiking and winter snowshoeing in the Colorado mountains) and is just about 2 years old... and is definitely one of the ... (Read More)cutest dogs around! His markings are so striking and his soft white hair is so bright against his charcoal markings. It seems that Prairie has been searching his entire life for a family to love him...he's just never had the good luck for that to happen. A Farfel's rescuer recognized the goodness and wonderful potential that is living inside of this young dog. We are committed to finding a home for Prairie that is very loving with clear and consistent boundaries. He wants to please more than anything...and is so smart that he has the ability to pick up concepts quickly - he just needs to understand what is being asked of him. His family will be one with that is overflowing with love for this dog and can understand that he's a guy who is on his journey learning about the world. This would be a perfect time to introduce Prairie to positive reinforcement obedience class. He's a blank slate just waiting to be taught the skills of excellent behavior out in the community. Prairie will most likely be just a bit shy initially...completely understandable after the challenges of his short life. We've just gotten a new foster report on Prairie that we want to share: We've fallen in love with Prairie! He's sweet, kind, cuddly and desires to be the best behaved guy on the block! He gets along perfectly with both my dog and cat as well as my 12-year old daughter. We've even spoken about adopting him...he's that wonderful! We've decided we just don't have the budget for another dog but are determined to help find Prairie the best home ever! Whoever has the great fortune to have Prairie join their family is truly getting a gem! We took him on a long hike today and he was so joyful and perfect with every dog (he's also great with cats) and human that we passed. He can go anywhere with the confidence that he'll always be sweet and well-behaved. Once Prairie bonds, there is nothing in the world that will pull him away from his person or family. His love and gratitude boils over when he knows he's safe in expressing himself. Prairie would be so happy with a family that included him on hikes, camping and backpacking trips or just a walk around the neighborhood. He would also enjoy friendships with other sweet dogs...he loves to play and cuddle with his canine friends. Prairie will never disappoint because once he understood what is expected of him, no one will ever try harder. We'd like Prairie's family to have the ability to spend good parts of their day with him. He has such great skills that he can be taken along or just hang out on the couch with his favorite people. He'd be a natural to bring along to any dog-friendly activities. he's so pleasant and engaging! Prairie is being fostered in Colorado. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.
