Rescue Me ID: 17-02-07-00119Lief (male)

Tibetan Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The very first thing that Lief the Schnauzer/Tibetan Terrier mix wants to make clear is that he's a love and so very beautiful. In this photo, it's very sad to see Lief so frightened and extremely matted and filthy. It's impossible to see the beauty of this handsome guy... to be aware of the striking chocolate and black streaks that run through his gorgeous coat and his so-cute scruffy face with the dark eyes that are so wise and expressive. Lief was found wandering the streets of downtown Houston. When he was picked up, his condition was street-filthy, very matted and injured. A cut below his eye and his demeanor spoke of the possibility ... (Read More)of a bait dog or dog fight. Since Lief is extremely friendly and engaging, he was the submissive dog. Even upon getting examined by the vet...and pronounced (through it all) in very good condition, Lief's tail was wagging as he gently kissed the vet on the hand. It was because of Lief's great temperament that we were contacted about him. Our hearts went out to his story and his ability to be loving and engaging through all his challenges. Farfel's immediately spoke up to welcome Lief into our rescue. Kindness and soft touches by humans seem to be new to Lief. His response is immediate and speaks of an engaging personality. Lief's gently sniffs at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And before you know it, Lief is in your lap or next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. This18 - 24 month old, 22 lb Schnauzer mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. Lief is such a people dog...he loves kids (hasn't been tested with children under 10) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Lief with active retirees or a family with older kids who want a great dog as a family member and best companion. We don't think a family that works full-time outside of the home would be a good match for Lief. He's a come-along guy and will be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Schnauzer/Tibetan Terrier mix and a young guy, Lief loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes...he would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please that he would excel. Lief would also be overjoyed to hike along Colorado trails..enjoying the sunshine, fun and time with his people. It is Lief's love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put him through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Lief has tested HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and all our dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Lief as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food, treats and chew toys for this special pup as he becomes healthily heartworm-free. Lief is a non-shedding pup and will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. Lief will arrive on transport in Boulder on Friday 2/17/17. If interested in this very loving and loyal best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-31-00394Charley (male)

Tibetan Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charley is a 7-8 year old, 16lb, terrier mix. **He does seem to be partially blind** Charley was surrendered to a high kill shelter in TX, in HORRIBLE condition. He was missing almost all his fur except the fur on this face, he was incredibly skinny, and very dirty and smelly. The shelter asked if we could take Charley and help him get better before finding him his true forever home. Of course we could not say no to that adorable face. Charley has now been in foster care for a while and is ready to start the search for his forever family. Here is what Charly's foster mom has to say about him: 'Things with sweet Charley are going ... (Read More)pretty well. His hair seems to be growing in remarkably fast. He eats very well, in fact he would eat all the time if he could. He is getting more and more playful. I must say that his vision seems pretty poor. He has great difficulty going down a lot of steps as he apparently cannot seem steps going down, but he can go down a few steps alright and can go up stairs pretty well as he can see the steps better going up. He loves to go on long walks, does very well. The vision thing doesn't seem to bother him at all though. He sleeps all night in our big crate and if I got out for a while he will go into the crate and sleep until I return. He can jump up really high if he gets excited or wants something, it's very funny to watch. He also spins around like a circus dog! Another thing he loves to do is sleep cuddled up next to me in the recliner. He gets along pretty well with the other two dogs, and even seems to like to play with them! He would be very sweet with kids, but I think a home with an older couple or individual who has lots of time and a less chaotic house for him would be perfect. Other than his eyesight he seems like a happy, healthy guy. He will make someone very happy.' It seems to us that Charley's blindness is a result of a birth defect or head trauma, he doesn't have cataracts and his eyes look very healthy.
